April Ross

April Ross is one of just a handful of female beach volleyball players to capture medals at many Olympics. In Tokyo in the coming days, she'll try to win her third gold medal with fellow the first-time Olympian Alix Klineman. But more than that, Ross will be aiming for her first Olympic gold. This may be the last chance she'll ever have to do so at the age of 39. Her confidence is high but she is not sure. Ross declared on NBC Boston: "If we do our best and even if we just play well, I think we could be able to win gold." It's also going to be a matter of chance. Ross was born in California, Costa Mesa in 1982. Her parents as well as her sister were residents there. Ross's athletic endeavors began at Newport Harbor High School where she played in a variety of sports. When she was a student in the prep school she played basketball, indoor volleyball as well as running track. But she stood out at this level. As per her biography, during high school she played volleyball as an outside hitter (middle blocker) and setting (outside blocker). Thanks to her hard work she was named an 1999 Gatorade Champion of Champions Circle of Champions Player of the Year. In 2000, the Orange County Athlete of the Month was also received by her for volleyball. Ross and Klineman are continuing to play since 2017. The reality is that Ross played a significant role on the beach volleyball circuit prior to the pair. She's won big tournaments twice with different partners. One of them is an icon of the world of volleyball. Jennifer Kessy coached her from 2007 through the year 2013. Kessy as well as Ross proved to be strong on the world circuit, winning the world championship in 2009 as a team. The 2012 Olympic Games, they received a gold medal. Misty May, Kerri Walsh and Kerri Jennings were the team to beat for the gold. Ross Jennings took over for May-Treanor after she announced her retirement. They won bronze in beach volleyball during the Rio Olympics in the year 2016. After high school and many years before hitting the sand as a pro Ross balled out for the USC Trojans as an NCAA. This was an impressive run for Ross at the university. She was an All-American as well as Pac-10 freshman of the year in 2000 as a young freshman. The Trojans were also able to get to the Final Four with her help. The Trojans suffered a heartbreaking personal loss in her sophomore year and yet she went on to repeat her place as an All-American. In her last two years of participation in the Trojans team, she led the Trojans to winning a national title every year. As an individual, she cemented her place as a legend by winning the Honda Sports Award for 2003-04. The award is given to the top female college volleyball players across the country. Ross, an USC international relations student was a star in volleyball. Margie Ross did not see her daughter reach the top of the beach volleyball ladder. Ross's mother died of cancer of the breast in the year 2001. Ross had just become an undergraduate student in the second year at USC. However, she keeps her parent close to the heart. Margie has inspired her in her life and on the beaches.
